Prior to joining Mill Road Capital, Mr. Scharfman was the senior manager of the Equity Capital Markets Origination Group at Robertson Stephens. Mr. Scharfman has extensive experience trading equities as well as raising capital in IPOs, secondaries, and convertible offerings for companies in a wide variety of industries. Prior to Robertson Stephens, he was the Chief Financial Officer of Mercata, Inc. a company founded by Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft. Prior to Mercata, Mr. Scharfman was a senior managing director and head of the Equity Capital Markets Origination Group at Bear Stearns & Co. Prior to Bear Stearns, he was a senior manager with The Blackstone Group, investing Blackstone's funds in a variety of companies as well as advising clients on mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Scharfman began his career with The First Boston Corporation.

Mr. Scharfman is a member of the Board of Directors of Rubio's Restaurants, Inc. and has served on multiple boards of both public and private companies. He earned an A.B. (cum laude) from Princeton University, where he was elected to Sigma Xi, the science honor society.
